Benzema: "I'm in good shape"

Benzema is standing firm in the face of criticism. The forward reassured one of his friends who recently expressed concern, particularly regarding the whistles directed at him from some factions in the Bernabéu, by saying "I'm in good shape, I'm feeling really good and I'm going to have a great game, you'll see".
Benzema: I'm in good shape and I'm going to have a great game, you'll see

Benzema was quick to back up his predictions. Going into his favourite competition, feeling physically fit and confident, he knew that his team play and the goals had to come. Something he proved in Istanbul with his best game so far this season.

The forward came under the scrutiny of the French press on Wednesday. "There's no doubt the Champions League is his competition", the majority of newspapers noted, failing to explain, however, how a player with the resources displayed by Karim in Istanbul could have played 1217 minutes for France without scoring.

"The Champions League, Benzema's back yard", "Karim at home in the Champions" or "Sublime in Europe" are some of the headlines that ran in the French press.

Besides Ancelotti's system, which focuses on possession more, thereby helping to bring him into the game to a greater degree, Benzema believes that the only secret to a top flight performance is hard work and consistency. The French player maintains that any forward needs to have starter status to be at their best.

With Carlo, and since the departure of Higuaín, Karim has made the starting XI for every tie, at least so far. He has now scored a total of 33 goals in the Champions League: 21 for Real and 12 with Olympique Lyonnaise.
